WELCOME!

Moravian Master Class
is named after Moravia, the region of the Czech Republic where several great composers were born - Janáček and Martinů, who spoke Czech, as well as native German speakers such as Mahler and Korngold.  We shall concentrate largely on the Czech repertoire (including Dvořák, who loved Moravia), but will not forget Mahler and others who are part of an important Central European tradition.  No prior knowledge of Czech is needed, and we shall debunk the myth that singing in Czech is difficult.

Our venue, Castle Náměšť, lies just 30 km east of the regional capital Brno; it hosts a unique collection of tapestries and in 2001 has been proclaimed a National Treasure.  In the neighbouring small town of Třebíč, the beautifully restored former Jewish Quarter is on the list of Unesco's World Heritage sites.  For the sports-minded there are many cycle routes through the rolling hills and woods of this pretty region.

We look forward to seeing you at this established programme where you will be able to learn and perfect the Czech repertoire, and to discover the background which has influenced some of the greatest composers of the late 19th and early 20th century.
